FS: '98 VW GTI, 8v, Ginster 2.0T, maybe
« on: January 07, 2009, 06:06:04 PM »

Not sure yet if I want to sell it but I figured I would post it to see if there's any interest.

It's a 1998 (leftover DE) 8V GTI with a turbo kit by ATP.  Here's the list of things done to it that I can think of at the moment.
-ATP Turbo kit with intercooler
-Bilstein PSS9 adjustable coilover kit
-Rieger body kit
-18" Racing Hart wheels with 5th spare, tires have less than 5k miles on them.
-Neuspeed cam
-Neuspeed front/rear swaybars
-Exhaust (forgot who makes it)
-Short shift kit
-Monowiper
-Shaved rear (then I added the current badges)
-Eye lids
-M3 mirrors

That's all that comes to mind at the moment.  I'm sure I'll add more.  The gaudy academy sticker came off when I finally brought it out here (saved me from tickets back home though  :P ).  It's got about 117k miles, clear title.  Needs some maintenance (clutch) and there's a few other things wrong.  Needs a diverter valve.  I'm tearing out that BEGI fuel pressure reg and putting in a C2 fueling kit this month (haven't decided on which kit).  Contact me for details.

I have no idea how much it's worth.  If I did sell it, it would be locally.  Let me know what you think I could get for it or if you're interested, and keep the bashing to a minimum please. I already know it's a boarderline rice-mobile  ;D but its fun.

Nice ride, BUT this isn't craigslist. We are a Volkswagen Club and don't really like it when people use our forums as a classified ad. So introduce yourself and hang out sometime.  Otherwise, good luck with the sale. 8)

I've posted several times before but couldn't remember my account info so created this one.  Don't let my post count fool you, I'm not completely new here...  I've talked to a few random dubbers around town but haven't really had time to stop by any meets (I'm a cadet, I have no life and don't get out much).  And I'm not strictly trying to use this as craigslist. I'm trying to see if any dubbers who would appreciate the car are interested, not some random shmuck.  I'd come hang out this weekend but I'm in trouble at school for the next few weekends and can't leave.

Ok, welcome back. If you have no life the GTG on Saturdays is one way to get one. So stop getting into trouble so you can get out. ;D

BTW, most of us are broke ass MoFo's. The best I can offer you for your car right now is a dried up ball point pen. :P

Haha.  I will try to make a GTG soon.  Preferably after I install the fueling kit so my car is that much more impressive  :t-up: .

Yeah, I'm thinking about selling this so I can find someone who is desperately selling their R32 ;D  It's been my dream car since... 2004.

I'm Wayne, by the way.

I'll raise you and offer you 2 NEW ballpoint pens plus your choice of a slightly used permanent marker or 2 slightly used dry erase markers.

Seriously, very nice car, love the kit and 2.0T is the shizzle. 8v's for life! Wanna trade for a 1971 fuel injected vw fastback?  ;)

You guys are such cheap lowballers...

...I'll trade you a new package of any color boll point pens you'd like.  And in all reality, all I want off of it is the turbo kit.   ;D

Alright, the high bid is an entire pack of pens, color of my choice (Reserve not met)

The reserve is set at a down-payment on an R.

But seriously, how pumped would you be if I actually gave someone the car for a pack of pens.

How about.....  a bed cover for a VW caddy... and some paint stick markers?? :D

Looks nice man, I imagine if you wanted to sell it you could do it pretty easily on the Vortex. Besides (no offense to officers) A r32 is more fitting anyway    ;)

Good luck with it and we will all be looking for you at a GTG once you get a weekend off.

Looks like a reiger exhaust... or maybe the... remus?

If I find you an .:R at a dealership that does "No downpayments and 0% interest until 2011!" or something like that, does that mean I can get the car for free?

Also, seriously, what's a ballpark on this bad boy? My fasty would only fetch about $2k but I have someone interested and a daily I could unload for another $1.5k or so. I'm just drooling and dreaming, but hey, you never know.

My old username should have involved any combination of "1119" "gump" or "wayno" maybe "ginster" or "2.0T"  I already did a search for the word ginster to try to find some old posts but I couldn't find anything.  I definitely remember asking some questions on here and talking to some people several months ago.  The forums looked different back then I'm pretty sure.

Well, before Xmas break, my sergeant wanted some paperwork from me and I got it to him a few days after the deadline he set, so he wasn't happy about that.  Then, we have mandatory breakfast everyday (sucks) and I was up late doing homework one night so I skipped breakfast on the one day in the month they happened to check and see who wasn't there.

We have this punishment called "confinements" (sounds awfully similar to prison).  Basically you sit in your room with the door open in your service uniform (suit type thing) doing homework.  The confinement period lasts 2 hours and I have about 16 of them to sit.  They are only on weekends and before break I couldn't sit because it was finals weekend (no confinements).  So I'll be stuck here until next Sunday/Monday probably.

Interesting how that makes for a "good" photo to the outside world.  I mean, I've seen advertisement type photos of cadets in their service uniform, in their dorm room, doing homework.  Sounds like someone took a pic of a cadet on confinement to show how disciplined you guys look doing your homework. ::)

Yeah it makes us look hardcore but the truth is, why would you sit in your room like that when you can do homework with the door closed in civilian clothes...  But w/e, that's a whole other topic.

I do like bologna sandwiches but I'm going to have to pass.

Why would you trade a VRT for a 2slowT?  Thanks for the offer but I'm looking for a VR of the 3.2 variety.

So what's a decent price to expect from this beast so I have a starting point.  Haven't been following the market lately.

Id say 4K is a good starting point, maybe 4500 OBO and see if you have any bites?

Colorado ... better start it out at $10K to be safe... wouldn't want to screw up the fair market value of VW's in Colorado by listing it for a reasonable price
