So my son-in-law is selling me a 95 toyota tacoma ,regular cab, 5spd , 4wd,BIG 2.7 ltr for dirt cheap if you rember my "i bought a cheap jeep " post ya know what i'm talking about . Well i got it home and was going to do some maint stuff on it like oil change , tranny fluid change ,replace the squelling belts and so forth , well after doing all this thinking it's going to be great little truck to run around in since my other 3 toys are all down (audi still running fingers crossed) i leave to head up to rampart range to shoot the trash up there well i take it easy lettting her get up tp temp and what not, well i hit the hwy and mash the throttle in 2nd gear well she rolls up the rpm range great until about 2,800 rpm from there up till redline i have this god awful vibration? 

 so i went up to the range taking back roads anyway ,all the while trying to figur out what is causing this, so once i'm back home i start looking around. all the motor mounts look good there's nothing rubbing on anything and no sounds like that, so i have the wife seat in the cab and put it in gear with the transfer in neutral and hold it at 3,000rpm (this seems to be the worst in the range ) and i start crawling around underneath it looking for signs of something and i get nothing until i notice that when your looking at the tranny/rear driveshaft you can see them vibrating like crazy and you can feel it also.

 so if ya guys got any ideas let me know or a good shop to take it to i need it running till i get the rabbit,sammy back together

 i'm going to bring a block of wood home from work and jack the rear of the tranny up and see what happens its to hard to tell if the rear mount is busted or not cause it's bolted to a crossmember.

I'm assuming that its lifted?

This is very VERY common when you lift any kind of vehicle.  The driveshaft CV joins only work within a certain range in terms of angle, so its very common for this to happen.  Unfortunately the only workaround is to either purchase a new CV joint that is designed for a larger angle (lots of 4wd companies make them, you shouldnt have too much trouble), or to replace your diff with a high pinion version, which can be pricey and a PITA.

Check your u joints and try greasing the lube points w/a grease gun on the zerks for it.

With an oder truck, my guess is a combination of U-Joints and worn motor mounts.

Im really thinkin ujoints. But it could also be pilot bearing, shot diff, shot transfer case.  Check the fluids in both diffs, drain and change em. Odds are they haven't been done and need to be. I found out my front diff was shot when I did that and had a vibration and grinding noise coming from my driveline in 4wd...

     the odd thing is i get the noise with the truck in gear/out of gear moving/ or not , and it dosen't matter where the transfer case is by why of what range.so i don't think it's u-joints since nothing in the driveline is moving, except for the inside of the tranny and transfer, the drive shafts aren't moving
    this has me really confused since i work on 4wd trucks everyday and can usally find something like this fairly easy  i looked at the motor mounts today with it idling and with the wife giving and holding it in the rpm's that cause the noise/vibration and there working like there suppose to and there not dry rotted.
     the truck has 134,000 which isn't alot for these trucks i do need to check the diff fluids but like i said before there not in motion when i get the vibration i do have a very rough idle and am wondering if the motor might be out of timing? cause with it at idle it'll shack the whole truck it's so rough. i scanned it and all i got was " fuel bank #1 failure" so i'm going to take it down to toy-tech today have them look at it for me
                also the truck is at stock height.

hmm... sounds like either a internal tranny issue if its not moving. Could be an engine problem too like a balancer is out of alignment or a bearing. Try fixing the idle to see if that does it. If not man, Im scratchin my head.
Check out the sites though, there are alot of people on there w/ the 2.7L.  I bet someone has had the issue...ttora is a pretty common site... kinda like vortex for taco's...

Fuel bank 1 failure? Sounds like it's running on closer to 3 cylinders than 6 cylinders. Try pulling the plugs to see if any are running lean/rich and check the connectors on the injectors. If you're really a glutton for punishment you can try pulling plug wires one at a time to find dead cylinders. Other than that, flywheel/pressure plate maybe along with other things mentioned.

well it's it does lack power and yes it does vibration but once you give it any fuel it smooths out but there is a forsure loss of power and fuel milage plus while he (son-inlaw) was in iraq my step-daughter and her boyfreinds drove the shit out of it so i'm thinking something with the tranny after spending almost 2 days on it so next friday i'm taking it to a shop and let me check it out i got to much on my plate right now with work and all

 and don't even ask about the whole she's running around with boyfreinds while he is in iraq thing , i'm allready pretty pissed to find that shit out my ex-wife did the same to me women are cruel let me tell ya

 oh and it's a 4-cyl i wish it was a 6-cyl but a 2.7 ltr 4 isn't bad if it's running right

I know International used a 4 popper in their Scouts that was close to 3 liters, but damn,in a Toyota?

Can't hurt to check free stuff and yanking plugs doesn't take that long. I do feel ya on having too many things going on though.

 A guy i work with plays with pole if ya know what i mean and this is how he described it , u asked

 and yea it's a big 4 there were three motors a 2.4ltr 4 - 142 hp/158lbs  ,the 2.7ltr 4 -150 hp/ 177lbs ,and the 3.4ltr v-6 -190hp/220lbs plus the truck is the base model 2 seater with power nothing except steering , with the bigger motor so it's super light it'll crank it out pretty good when it was running right so  someone order it that way or it got lucky coming out of the factory ,plus before the weird crap with the vibration started happening i could roll up mounument hill in 5th gear goin 90mph rolling 31's hell my jeep couldn't do that with the 4.0ltr 6 and 31's

Maybe, I know the Bronco II I owned had a 2.9L V6 though.  Not often you see a bigger motor with fewer cylinders on the same model.

i'm going to pull the dust cover and check my fly wheel clutch out, something might have fallen out ie. bolt,nut,spring, so i'll give a update tonight sometime
