Took the car to the track tonight... test 'n tune
« on: September 07, 2007, 09:47:12 PM »

Ok, so I got all excited to go see what my new car could run... and come to find out the god damn track is an EIGHTH  MILE!!!!!!!!!

Oh well, it was damn cheap and I was there, so I might as well have some fun. I decided to work hard on my launches since I have never launched an AWD car before, and it is quite a bit harder than I expected.

My first run was a .3639 R/T, 2.338 60 foot, and 9.64 E/T with a trap speed of 74.14. There are charts to work that out to a rough estimate of your 1/4 mile speed and I am in the high 14's with that.

My best run (my seventh and last) was as follows, but the R/T pissed me off...

R/T .4178
60'  2.0992
330' 6.0997
1/8th E/T 9.3011
TRAP: 76.79

That 1/8th mile E/T works out to a 14.536 on most of the charts I have found, but I really want to know what the trap speed would work out to be.  I am guessing around 115-120, but who knows.

my best R/T of the night was a .2069 and my worst was the last run with a .4178, but I think overall it was a great night of learning about my new car!

I have a few videos if you would like to see them I could upload them for you.

Well, I found a calculator for that too, and it says 105 is in the ballpark at 4200 pounds and 379hp... so my guess was not too terrible.

ok scratch that... the curb weight of a stock 95 S-6 is 3814 and I know i saved 40 pounds with the exhaust, but I had half a tank of gas in the car so let's just go with the published weight and re-run the calculator...

With that weight you come out with a touch over 108... still not too shabby considering it is a barge!

I don't know man -- at Bandi, my 1/8 was a 8.9 @ 78 MPH.   I ended up running a 13.9 at 97 MPH.  I think your 1/4 trap will probably be about the same.

everytime I had started taking something to track I learned not to use my daily driver because I might be getting a ride to work. But it is a sweet ride!

Well, it has two fans first of all, and the one I suspect is bad is only used to cool the A/C compressor and alternator at temps well above where I was at last night. the primary one is electric and is working like a champ.

Yo, I owe you a phone call.

Don't forget to add the weight of the driver.

115-120 trap speeds are well below 13's.

97 mph trap sounds right in the quarter.

Yeah, there are a few guys on Audiworld telling me the same thing. I guess there was one dude who hit 105 on the same setup I have, but he side stepped the clutch at like 6 grand to get that run in the books.

I was only guessing on the trap, there was no math behind it... no biggie really! The car is still fun as hell to drive, and that is all I give a crap about.

When I took my car to Bandi I ran about 112 mph @ 12.3-12.4 range, 115 mph @ 12-12.1 range and 120.05 when it did the 11.3 Using 10,12 and 15 lbs of boost.  The 1/8 mile speeds were 87.96 to 94.97.

Thanks...

I am pretty sure the trap speed has been beaten into submission at this point.

You're certifiably nuts for driving (especially racing) that car with a bad fan clutch.
