« on: September 19, 2008, 09:53:08 PM »

So like usual all of my funds have been going to my GTI . Love peoples opinions (minus you Pat  :P ) and input. I will be making alot of changes this winter so this will be the black beast's thread.

Took of these...

To make room for this...

And took off this...

To add this...

Pics are filthy and by far the dirtiest my car has been. But i dont drive it as much. And the paint stinks but all of that will change soon :)

3.5 pounds of boost.. 7 hg of Vac. Tried using starter fluid and carb cleaner on the vac lines and couldnt get it to work. So finally in anger i pull one of the main lines of the intake mani and sprayed fluid in it hoping it would rev up and it still didnt. Am i not making enough vac or why wouldnt it. I tested my gauge in another car and it reads correct . I'm lost.

Been so worried about modding i left out the love for maintenance. Vag will be here tomorrow so i can read and log all of my stuff.

o2's are shot they will be replaced in a week or so.

The plug wires with holes that were shocking the life out of us will be replaced this week.

Hopefully after these and the vacuum issues i will see a solid 6psi put with it not cutting out.

Remember how new my tires looked? Yea that look is long gone lol  :P

Im actually making something for a license plate now, But trying to find a n/a rub strip without the holes in it. I'm just going to jb or superglue two magnets  behind the rub strip and stick the plate on that way. I don't have to have a plate in town only when i get on the highway. Swift hasnt really designed one that is mk4 friendly without cutting.

No GLI lip here.. 20th anniversary. GLI requires to be cut and shortened and all that good stuff. This one was made to fit the n/a gti bumper. I have to pull it off and sand it down cause the guy painted it a rough texture. But hopefully by then I'll be trimming it for a front mount :)

These damn vacuum leaks are kicking my ass. I'm about to throw in the towel and let shop use the smoke machine on it. Unless someone on here has better methods.

Do you have an air compressor/air tank? You can try making a plug with an air fitting on it and stick it onto the piping after the s/c. Put a pressure regulator on it, set it to around 10psi and listen for the whistles.

yeah.... thats how you look for boost leaks as well... You will need to make a custom adapter, but check out some of Ryan's (dreadlocks) threads, because I have seen how he made one on here or DZ before :t-up:

Hey Jeff i found one of my boost leaks... Remember the homeade oil catch? Leaked out the bottom of that. Took it out and ran the lines direct to each other and according to 5 pounds of compressed air to the charger there is no more leaks. Still only pulling  7hg of vac and the car is dying when i let off the throttle after getting on it. Still confused.
Finally bought a vag and showing a misfire for cyl #4.

I think someone is poking holes in my plug wires  :P

I am about ready to. I wish i would have went turbo from the start, but pulling it,selling it, and buying a turbo would still all be on a motor that has a hidden vac leak.

man that is pretty strange... so you have still not found the Vac leak? hmmm.... one thing you should check would be the BOV or Diverter valve for the charger. A friend of mine had a similar problem on a Civic turbo, apparently his BOV had two nipples on it. I think it was a Greddy Type S, and we ended up using the lower nipple instead of the upper one??? It was 3 years ago, but just some food for thought. You may have NO leaks, and it could be whatever you are using to relieve the pressure.

I have the plastic Bosch that the kit came with.. I will try that tonight just to eliminate any possibilities. The one on it is a forge DV with only one nipple. The one nipple is hooked up to a vacuum line about the intake mani per VF's install instructions.

Its just a thought. Also I thought that the DV vac came straight off the compressor side. I could be wrong... Nothing wrong with following the instructions  :t-up:

Let me know how the plastic one works  :t-up:
