Couldn't find anything from here.  I did find this.

I like it, but at first glance, I thought it was a Chevy Astro van

While browsing the different International VW websites looking for the Sportline, I found that they still make and sell MK1 Golfs in South Africa.  Look at all the other models too:  http://www.vw.co.za/models/

Yeah they're pretty sweet and some versions come with the 1976 hp figures so you can really feel old skool! I'd take one of the new mk1 caddys that they have, though I didn't see them listed on the site.

I never understand why there is no one selling these kinds of cars here. The market is ripe for cheap, sporty econo-boxes that don't look like total crap, ie. Fit, Aero, Scion xWhatever. I think a mk1 golf sold here in the states right now could be VW's hottest selling product.

20 years and the can't upgrade the power in them? I agree it would be pretty badass to have a brand new mkI though.

Id be the first one at the dealer to trade my mk4 Vr for one!  I was talking to this guy from mexico a few weeks ago and he said 2004 was the last year for the original Beetle.  I though that was odd considering we had the new one while they still had the old for a few years.

Well, they sort of did. Base is a 1.4 with 55hp, top of the line is a 1.6 with 75 or 100hp I think it said. 75 would be stock for the original gti I think. They aren't built for speed, they're built for total economy. The sportiness is just a nice bonus of such a light little car.

As for old style bugs, yep made in Mexico until recently, almost totally the same except for modern fuel injection. Used mainly for taxis as I understand it, you could get them in the states fairly easily. The original is smaller, cheaper to buy and maintain and more fuel efficient. You forget that everything is bigger and fatter in America.

Here are some links to the different WW VW sites.  Check out the different models sold around the world.  A lot of the VW models in Latin America that we don't get here are either cross developed with Ford or with Toyota.  The biggest reason we can't get them here is due to crash protection standards, and the fact that they have small low consumption/low horsepower modesl that Americans wouldn't buy, which is sad.  The rest of the world has seen gas prices of $8 to $12 a gallon gas for many years, and have learned to adapt.
Argentina:  http://www.volkswagen.com.ar/
Brazil: http://www.volkswagen.com.br/  (Check out the model called the Kombi)
Mexico: http://mx.volkswagen.com/vwcms_publish/vwcms/master_public/virtualmaster/es_mx.html
Sweden Commercial Vehicles: http://www.volkswagentransportbilar.se/default.shtml  (Check out the Caddt Carrera Cup Edition, as well as the Caddy Type R)

And from Spain, I've linked to all the Multivan models that are similar to the one that started this thread.  http://comerciales.volkswagen.es/multivan/gama.html
You can see "Startline", "Comfortline". "United", the 4x4 "PanAmericana", and the upscale "Highline".  On this page, hover over the navigatioin bar on a link called "Acabados".  Select the different models listed to see more pictures and specs.  You can also hover over "Galeria" and select "Imagenes" for more pictures, or select "Fondos de Escritorio" for Wallpapers.

I watched the video that was on that site and now my head hurts. German tuned suspension and styling? It's a phucking chrysler mini-van!

But it is supposed to have more "European" ride characteristic s... than a chrysler mini-van

I suppose something like a Toureg or Porsche Cayenne.  Somehting big and lumbering, with a german sport tuned suspension

A chrysler mini-van is not known for its handling. I have a feeling that "german tuned" is VW going up to bilstein and saying "Hey, make us some struts for this chrysler mini-van we rebadged."

I guess I didn't expect that they were going to be contneders on the track anymore than I expected the Toureg to be either.    ;)

Sounds to me like Chris has an issue with VW using a Dodge to fill that niche in the market VW wasn't filling before.   ;D

The Toureg does pretty damn good on road considering it's and suv, then it does great off road. ;D

It's a people hauler, pure and simple. Implying that it can do things that it cannot rubs me wrong. That and I've worked on too many caravans/town and countries to ever like chrysler again. :P

Who knows what it could have been.  I was shocked when I saw 3 Audi A3's about 10 months before they ever went on sale while I was in Denver one morning.  I talked to the guy and he barely spoke english 6 guys all German, but he said they were doing testing for the vehicles and they all had AZ plates on them.

We could hope. That thing looks like a direct competitor/replacement for the Routan, and since vw is just releaseing the Routan I don't think they'd replace it this quick.

So, I was looking at a Chrysler Town and Country today picking my kid up from school.  It looks quite a bit smaller than the older rounder generations, though I am sure it isn't.  It is about the same dimensions as a Dodge Durango.  Just lower with smaller tires.  It seems to be a bit lower overall profile than previous generations, and the harder lines definitely look less minivan and more crossover.

I would guess that given the size of them, the Routan would look smaller (like the vans 101stVet posted) but were likely Routans on test drives.

Just my two lincolns.

On another note, we are looking for something that can carry at least 7 and gets good mileage (like better than 20).

Our Trooper gets about 15 all the time and we'd like to have the extra seats.  We can get an aftermarket 3rd row seat for about a grand, but that doesn't help with the mileage.  It seems our options are Volvo XC70, big crossover (like a Ford Flex), or a minivan.  She hates minivans, but actually likes the Routan.  I like the XC, but it really is small.  Like, they feel similar to my Jetta in interior size.  Maybe I can get her into a Dub, even if behind the badge, it is a Diamler-Chrysler (hence the "German Engineered minivan").

My mom's xc70 is about the size of a passat wagon. You might even do good in a A6 wagon if you're willing to deal with the size of a wagon. As far as the minivan goes, the caravan/tc have a limited lifetime powertrain warranty where as the routan is a 3year/36k, but you get free oil changes during that time. ::) They seem to be priced similarly too.

Yeah, the size seemed about right.  I suppose it is a bit bigger than what I would guess a Jetta wagon would be.  Does the A6 offer a 7 passenger option?

I've got no idea.  I believe the A6 is bigger than the A4 and the passat is based off of the A4. A good possibility i bet but I couldn't say for sure. Might even get lucky with a Tiguan. ;D

AZ plates and no badging tells me it's a manufacturer car. Probably VW tech's in the area doing some testing as not to long ago they had the new scirrocco down in Texas with a couple of other VW's around it, all with AZ plates.
