Rocky Mountain SOLO
« on: July 29, 2008, 12:21:23 AM »

Well I decided to put myself in the Super Sport class since I'm running on R-compounds.

So who all will be going to the August 10th event in Denver?

pshaw, I can take an Elise! :E  Either way I'm pretty much stock, except for the Toyo R888s.  Also I took off my sun visors, rear view mirror and replaced my side mirrors with CF ones.  Not that I think those are a big deal, but I heard that they may cause issues with what class I'm in.  ???

You are in a stock class unless you have some suspension modification you failed to mention.  Make sure you get them to correct your class when you check in at the event.

It's not the car man, it is the driver.... I had to compete against a Caterham Super 7 a few times in my 82 Jetta and I kicked his ass!

Well then don't sweat it!  Add a few extra pounds of air to your tires, get there early, make sure you do the novice walk, if you are not racing in the first heat try and get a few rides to get a feel for the course and go have fun!

Slow is fast and fast is smooth....

I should probably go get my camber adjusted too, I'm understeering like a mofo.  I didn't have an issue till I put the R888s on the rear, a lot more grip than the AO48s on the front.  Tread wear be damned!

Over inflate the rears a little when you get there or have the grippier tires swapped to your front wheels. Tire World will be on site and for 20 or 30 bux you can get that taken care of pretty quickly.

No dice on swapping them to the front since they're staggered.  But good to know Tire World will be there, I had no idea. :O

I'll still probably get my camber adjusted though, since it's something I should've done before.  Hopefully I won't track so damn much on these shitty Co. Springs roads then.  The intersection of Powers and Fountain kills me. x_X

Ok, well go see Jack's alignment and tell them you what you want it setup for, those guys are good.   You will probably need an appointment though.

woah...stagger ed?  thats not going to be stock class.  what wheel and tire sizes are you running?  the mirrors, etc. arent a big deal, but the wheels and tires are.  you werent honest with us when you said "mostly stock".  wheels and tires are a big deal.

EDIT:  are you daily driving on the toyo R888?  ???

16x7 up front and 17x8 in the rear.  I wouldn't worry about it, it'll all get sorted out when I show up I'm sure.

I'm really not there to compete, just to learn the car a bit better.

As for daily driving the R888s, yup.  :burnout:

wheels and tires will jump you outta class, and running r comps on the street is fun depending on if it is a compound for auto-x or track driving....

auto-x rubber will heat cycle a little more than optimal and you will start to lose performance fast....

make sure you get into the correct class because some people get pretty bitchy about little things like that... you will only go into a street prepared class and then you can do springs/coil-overs, sway bars etc...

do the novice walk, and then walk it a few more times... you should be able to draw a map of the course from memory before you start your car...

Well the AO48s have really good grip for the first two heat cycles or so, then it's all down hill.  Rumor has it that the R888s hold up a lot better in the long run by comparison.  So I guess I'll find out how well they work on the 10th.

i wasnt getting nit picky as far as you getting competitive; i just want you to be in the right class so no one bitches about it.  its just a pain in the ass to show up in the wrong class and have to get it figured out then.  better to get it sorted out ahead of time.  but i would definitely like to see a pic of you car with the wheel and tire setup.  sounds pretty nice.

Nah, I didn't think you were being nit picky.

I guess the picture will explain why I put myself in Super Sport.

So uh, is anyone else going on the 10th?  ???

wha....oh, 1.8L of fury.  i get it now.  i believe you forgot to mention the little fact that youre rocking an exige.  see all this time, we thought that "1.8L of fury" meant like a 1.8T.  but you see, that being one of my favorite cars of all time, im gonna have to say more pics or GTFO!

EDIT:  and i am planning on being there on the 10th.

EDIT #2:  is that the N/A or SC exige?  cant quite tell from the pic.

I had to change my underwear after seeing that pic.

How are those r888's on road noise and wet-ish and on wear? I am thinking of what tires I want on my truck when I get back... and I may want loud tires. (think a048's)

It's an 06, so NA, but we'll see how long that lasts as aftermarket S/C kits are only about $5k.
As for the R888s, so far the wear has been good.  The AO48s lasted me 6000 miles on the rear and I've had the R888s on for 4000 with no noticeable signs of wear.  Wet grip seems good so far, I haven't had any "OMG I'm gonna die!" moments like I had with the AO48s.  Road noise, hell if I know.  All I hear is that engine mounted a foot behind my head.

I don't have many pics of it, but here are some taken by friends.

So, when's the next group drive so we can see it in action??

Isn't the trip in Salida coming up soon?

I must say I was completley confused by the 1.8L of fury as well.  I'd been picturing a VW of some kind all along.
