2.0t modding/tuning/exhaust install?
« on: June 24, 2008, 08:28:22 PM »

First off hi everyone!!
Just a quick note from another new guy to the forum.
I have just picked up a new 08 2.0t advant and got to get it set up.
I am looking for recommendation s for places to get tuning, exhaust, etc. in the Colo Springs or Denver.
Who does great work? what is the best performance chip/ software?
Exhaust? also does the carbrino really make a diff for the 2.0t? have read both sides.
one last thing, what about getting an airbag system for this?
Ideas??? ???
Thanks in advance!!

Hello new guy. I am Matt, or as some people call me "brown tee shirt Matt", "smartass", "dick", or a lucky few(females!) call me "thanks for last night Matt". There will be all the local tuners at DATR this year if you were willing to hold off for two months. Carbonio does make good intakes but completely overpriced IMO. And if you have your heart set on bags that's fine but you should at least start with fully-adjustable coilovers and see if you'd be satisfied with those.

first off welcome....fro m a fellow noob

I'm more familiar w/ the 1.8t rather than the 2.0t and i'm not up-to-speed with the latest mods for that platform.

As for local car tuning shops my experience has been less than stellar; and I can't recommend any really.  Maybe, Underpressure Power & Performance (in CS).  They did alot of work on my friends eclipse, gave him alot of discounts on parts/work, fixed issues for free as they arose (he has quite a few mods), quality work, etc.  I have REVO software (and like it).  Every mod I've done (except software) I've done myself due to the issues I've experienced w/ shops in the past, the high costs of installation/parts from them and not fully trusting them to do a quality job from my/friends dealings with them.

Maybe some others have had positive dealings with some of the local euro tuning shops and can vouch for them; but I can't.

I've had good dealings with Evolution Racewerks, Eurocode tuning, JB @ Performance Cafe and Greg @ Deutsch Teile Haus via online/phone dealings.

Again, welcome

-Jesse

Btw the bags are for the wife driving and is loaded down with kids. need to adjust on the fly.
this is her car but when we both go out, Show or run light to light, would be nice. want to keep it low for performance but be able to lift when shes not paying attention.(diving into driveways etc)
we dumped the Q7 4.2 because 16 mpg on the highway :( didnt make since for me to race it around! thats why we now have a 2.0t for the milage, but i know we can get this moving and have the best of both worlds. Regular driving with mpg for her and low and fast when I want it! ;D

Underpressure is a good place to take DSM's and Civics but I don't think I'd roll in there with an B7 lol. What is that shop that was always advertising now having APR chips there a few months back.......... ..I haven't been around in a while so I forget which. But I'd seriously wait for the show though.

I think it was Revolution Performance.

Welcome. Avalon motorsports is one of the DATR (Dubs Along The Rockies) sponsors. From what I've heard they're pretty good and they're up in Denver. I'm sure if you can hold out until DATR they'll run some show specials. I believe Kerma TDI chips gassers now.

Bags are neat but don't expect much performance out of them. You're adding a bunch of weight and you'll dump thousands upon thousands of dollars to get a system that performs maybe a touch better than stock. Bags are more for looks than performance. Audi's are big enough that a mild drop looks good and the "slammed look" looks a bit strange. Maybe try some sport springs and struts. That should keep it useable for the wife and perform good on street and track.

Nice Notch!

I really want a Type 3 someday.  I'm leaning towards a Notch or a Squareback, not sure which.  One day, it will happen though.

I remember a notch with ghost flames maybe 4 DATR's ago, was that you? Did you build your engine or did someone else? What made you go CB over Weber? More notch pics! I have a 71 Fastback and I've had about enough of the engine but wanna keep the f.i. Not really rich enough for the aftermarket f.i. tho. Or a freeway flier.

lots oquestions... 8)
thanks for the notch comments! yes it has been at datr and on the was the votg last month. been to bandamier about 6 times or so and its done very well.
the cb injection works awesome. Randy over at Sportscar had actually built my motor with Jay. its about 5 or 6 yrs old now and not many miles on it. had a bit of timing issues till just recently and now runs great.
as far as work, well i am a commercial painting contractor. we do a ton of large work and go nation wide.
not doing a plug.
just keep in mind that i started back in 91, so been doing this awhile. most painters are barely making it.
not nocking just saying we are a different kind of company.
i have talked with avalon and set up an appointment next month (waiting for parts) for the wifes a4. going to have a stasis exhaust, apr flash and still up in the air about the intake. any comments with help. all other shops have not replyed to any calls or emails.... crappy customer service. way matters as that my business. all about taking care of the customer!!!!

As a owner of two 2.0T's, the best bang for the buck is getting flashed. Then if you want a intake get one. Stock you will see nearly no gains from any of the intakes available, other than
being able to hear the DV opening. The Carbonio intake is nothing more than a flashy replacement for the 'ram' section of the stock intake and a drop in K&N or ITG foam filter.
I assume KermaTDI will be flashing APR again at DATR.

well crispy hopefully this dont hurt much, but the stock box sits next to the turbo thus your air is heated. not good for MAX performance. The carbonio does sound good but looking at the stats from them  and doing my own, here is what I got: carbonio syas it reduces the inlet temp by 80%, my test shows 40F to 80F cooler than stock. now my test were done at a stand still so I can only assume that it would run cooler at movement. There is also a simple 80 dollar heat shield you can use for stock box that will help with the temp issue. Now as far as the filters yes kn makes a drop in but then you have a oil filter which is bad for MAF sensors. Dry aint bad but look at the data carbonio has put out on volume of air going thru stock or kn or carbonio. Now granted the best would be cut a hole through your hood and put a dry filter on, but that will look like shit. Also changing the stock versus  carbonio filter, well carbonio wins hands down.  RS$n you saw mine yesterday in the GTG it looks clean quiet when it needs to be but oh yes get on it and you can here the DV. Again this is my opinion and you know how that goes.  :P

Are you referring to this?:

http://www.namotorsports.net/detail.cfm/part_cd/CBCI100012

the stock box sits next to the turbo thus your air is heated
The stock airbox is still utilized.

Are we talking about the same intake?
I know they make other applications.
I was stating what I have heard many times on other forums about the above intake.
A replacement air box inlet, and a drop in filter for the stock air box.
Being that I have never had this intake on my car, I can not state much more than hearsay.

see that is for the VW. the air box/filter is directly over the exhaust manifold, and part of the engine cover. I am not computer savy but goto www.goapr.com and select audi click products on the left in red then select b7 2.0t out of the drop down, then intakes, read, there is a separate select for intakes there that takes you to the carbonio website with sound bite and stats. but on the B7 audi it looks NOTHING like that. I saw a vw the other day with stock setup like the pic and the stock filter is built into that engine cover over the exhaust. poor design. and I was just being sarcastic crispy..... :t-up:

Well Thursday I took the wifes care up to Brian @ Avalon to get the new exhaust and flash.
After going through much research and responses, I decided to go with Stasis catback and APR with all 4 settings as it was buy one get one free. Not Bad!
I made the trip along with a bit of work in bolder. Had to go back around dinner to pick up the K&N as it didnt show up by the time the guys were done.
When I went back ran across Dante with his killer S4.
Nice to meet someone so far from home.
Anyways, on my way home coming down I25 this little tiboron was racing thro traffic,(btw was 1am and lite traffic) so I decided to catch him.
as the clearings came and we would run, the wifes car walked away without any problem and only set @91 on the chip. After about 5 or 6 time of this I let him go home unsatisfied with a bit of regret of buying that car.
Hers is definitely faster. 8)
You got to love that. v6 crushed by stationwagon with a little ol 2.0 ;D
Cant wait to get 100 octane in it!
