Bandimere Tomorrow
« on: April 26, 2005, 09:19:14 PM »

Yup, going to do the 1/4 finally tomorrow.  We are rollin' out at 3pm if anyone cars to join the other two cadets I am going with (T3/T4 Honduh and a NA Cobra).

$30 for runs from 4:30-8:45pm.

NHRA rules apply...does this mean I have to do anything special?  I have a helmet.

Need some tips too.  I am going to leave the boost at 6psi for 1st and 2nd I think, then hit the button for 16psi as I hit 3rd...

I definitely need tips on launching though.  Preload the drivetrain by slipping the clutch...hold at what RPM?

Fill me in experts.

Greg...the caddy wants to run...

If I remember correctly you only need a helmet if you're running 13.99 or faster..so you shouldn't need a helmet  :P

Flashback to my supercharged car... yes try to slip the clutch at around 3500-4000 rpm and on the last yellow light you have to perfectly coordinate the release of the clutch and hammering of the accelerator pedal through the floor boards.  That technique worked good for my car with street tires...I was fairly quick all things considered.
Any other technique would bog or just light the tires on fire.

And Greg if you roll the Caddy you gotta beat 15.9 ...that's his fastest time EVAR

Caddy fuel injection is crapped.  Runs, but not well.  Would love to run it, though.

Pat can probably give some VR6 launch techniques, though turbo might be a bit diff than supercharged.  Personally, I like holding the car with the e-brake so I can have both feet on the important pedals at the line.

The start line is usually stickier than the street, so bogging is more likely, fyi.

I like your 6psi to 16psi idea.

Dammit, if I don't get under 14 the car goes on sale tomorrow...

Although it is rich, and I can't launch for crap.  I haven't ever really launched hard though...so I guess the track is a good place to do it.

Jeff's solution to the rich condition was turning up the boost... :)  I'll log every run so I can see what I am doing AFR wise.

I am hitting 10 AFR in high boost still...so I can probably still hit the 18psi he told me to try...

Scary!  I don't want to break it!

You will quickly learn that launching on the prepared surface of the drag strip is unlike anything else you have experienced.

So I have heard...

Guess you just have to try it!

Any others interested in going?  Quite the compliment coming from the zoo:

"I have and old S4 and a new S4 coming as well as a sooped mustang and that white Loping camaro with orange stripes (jay u know him), and maybe a WRX that should be meeting up with us there as well. "

We are meeting at the NORTH GATE to the Academy, the little parking lot there, at 1500 (3pm for all you hippies) and rolling out soon thereafter.

Don't be weak.  Come on out.

I might be there, Ryan. I'll show up late if at all at Bandimere since I have dinner with Dick Celeste (the President) at 6. You still up for doing a few runs on my GTech?

Less tire pressure on street tires equal less traction, the tire cups and you lose tire surface area on the track. His biggest problem is going to be a good 60ft time but starting out in lower boost will help prevent wheel spin.

No steering wheel mount for the button, it is on the controller.  I figure I can shift into third, hit the button and then hang on.

I might try different tire pressures when I am there.

Well, just like the dyno, we should predict my performance on the track.

I bet my best will be a 13.9.  Probably up around 105mph.  I am just throwin' this out there, from things I have seen from others with a similar setup, and me never having done it before.

Others?  I'll buy you a beer if you get to within one tenth.

Does it matter which run? I'm voting for 14.5, and 14.3 on respective runs.

13.9 is probably a little optomistic considering you've never drag raced before.

Depending on how many runs they get, he may be able to nail the launch quickly though.

Then make a prediction!  I know you are going to need beer when you get back... :)

Pridiction only counts for my best run of the day.

Two separate beers, one for time, one for trap speed.

Trap speed within +/- 1mph.

Reaction time not an issue.

i would just run 16psi and feel the pedal coz it's kinda dangerous racing then looking and hitting the boostcontrolle r button even for a sec.  I played with the settings on my mbc and when i ran the car i hit limp...  as i said with some boost controller like my blitz dualsbc i can proram the ebc to boost a certain amount like 15psi for 5 sec then 20psi for the rest... it's the scramble mode i think for other ebc.

i know we have two totally different cars but here is how i ran:
21 psi in the front tires.
easy roll out at about 2800-3000 rpm
shift at 6000 rpm
through the lights in 3rd right around 5500 rpm
15.7xx @ 90 mph in a 3100 lbs car with a novice driver

i don't think your tires will cup unless you get them really low on the pressure.  also bandimere has a nice flat starting line.  i don't think you'll need to hold the brake at all.  also if they lay down some traction compound then the track will be extra sticky so you probably won't roll.  its a different story down at pmi....i rolled out of the lights my first time there.

my rt's sucked for a really long time.  it took me a while to get used to how my car likes to launch.  throttle by cable doesn't help much either.  so just take your time and have fun...oh and don't break anything!

i agree here.  if its your first time out you're going to be super nervous and have your hands full trying to get your car down the track will all that monsterous power you're making.  i'd just stick with one boost setting.
