there is something about ugly 80's cars that don't appeal to me... probably the fact that they're ugly.

I'd rock the shit out of that.  Wheels would be better silver, but i'd still drive it.

Yeah silver or even black with the wheels would be an improvement

You have to respect this car for what it represented at the time though.... that thing was a friggin' MONSTER when it hit the showroom floor.  Not to mention that it is still PLENTY capable even compared to much more modern cars.

um a mk2 looks good.  don't get me wrong... i know that car is bad ass but it's hideous as is.  just my opinion.  the later coupes are hot but those early cars are pretty not hot.

Aside from the diagonal hood vents, I like it wheels and all. I really like the lip on those wheels. But then again, I have a thing for flaired, boxy fenders a la e30 M3, R32(?) Skylines, etc.

It does??

Don't get me wrong as I loves me a nicely done up MK2 ..but let's not forget it's basically a box on wheels.  There weren't any trend setting styling cues established with they released the MK2 platform

Audi's Quattro became a huge part of world rally history when it introduced four-wheel-drive as a competent and necessary element of World Rally cars. The S1 was one of the most extreme of these and this Sport Quattro was the homologated road-going version of it. These cars became the holy grail for Audi enthusiasts and only around 200 were made to satisfy requirements.

The Sport Quattro benefited from the Quattros that contested the Group B category of rally racing from 1982 to 1984. With upcoming four wheel drive threats from Peugeot and Ford, the Sport was created to keep Audi at the top of their game.

One major difference between the Sport Quattro and the regular production version was a wheelbase reduction of 12.4 inches (320 mm) to just 86.8 inches (2204 mm). With a huge chunk missing from the middle of the car, the profile almost resembled a hatch back, but this smaller size greatly improved handling and reduced weight.

Furthermore, the Quattro was full of technologies such as ABS, four-wheel drive and self-locking differentials which were way ahead of their time in 1984.

Most of the Quattro Sport's outward changes were the work of Audi stylist Peter Birtwhistle. His design included larger grills and additional intakes on the hood and bumper to help increase air flow to the radiator and oil cooler mounted behind them. Huge wheel flairs covered 15x9 Ronal wheels.

The displacement of engine was dropped slightly from 2144cc to 2133cc so that Audi could satisfy the 3-liter rallying class with a 1.4 times multiplication factor. The enigne had 300 bhp on tap thanks to a turbocharged version of the double overhead cam, 20-valve, cross-flow, five cylinder engine that used an alloy block to save 51 lbs. This was the first Audi engine to use four valves per cylinder and a crossflow head, which helped it reach 143 bhp per liter!

Brakes were upgraded with four-piston calipers that clamped inner vented discs and ABS was included as standard but could be disengaged.

Because of the huge reduction of wheelbase, the rear passenger space suffered the most. There was absolutely no legroom and the rear bench was halved in size. In the front, new Recaro seats were used and an updated dashboard had to be the envy of every other regular Quattro owner.

With 4WD, high gearing and a low weight, the Sport Quattro could hit 0-100 kph in 4.8 seconds, which is an incredible figure still to this day. By comparison the S1 Rally version had 530 bhp and was probably the fastest way to get from point A to point B in 1986.

I would absolutely love to own an UrQuattro, especially a sport.  Those cars are one of the greatest ever made.

There is something about ugly 80's car that I just love, probably the fact that everyone thinks they're ugly.  I also like cars that make you actually drive them, modern day cars are too posh and easy to drive for me.  I don't like ABS, ESP, and all that crap.  I really don't even like powersteering all that much.  I like mechanical clutch linkages and all that.  Damn, now I really miss my 84 GTI.

exactly.  im getting tired of the mkiv, and the mkv's are ugly as sin, they look like toyotas. same with the new audis (except for the S5 and the R8 god those are sexy), they dont really appeal to me like the old german box on wheels.  if my mkiv didnt need so much work to get it in a sellable condition id dump it and get a older audi or a mkii

yeah, I'm not a huge fan of the mk5 either.  The audis are ok, I can forgive them all their poshness as they are a luxury brand.  I love the look of the new TT's, I just wish i could get one with almost no interior or refinements.  A stripped down GT3 version so to speak.  that would be awesome.

Going back to the car that started this thread, ooooooo weeeeeeeee---
That is a damn fine example of a Ur Quattro with sport quat hood & front bumper. A car that deserves to have the wheels driven off of it! The wheels are period correct white is the sexiest (gold was the other option) and personally I kind of don't get into the gold bit. What would make that car just freekin awesome, is if the owner ditched the 10v turbo for the always appropriate 20v turbo- which due to availability would have to come out of an early S4. This car makes me want to go the the boys room &  :blow-up: in that uh, nevermind....
About 3 years ago I saw a green Ur that had been given some of the body treatments (hood/ wheels/square headlights) of the Sport Quat., the car was mostly clean- a solid driver for sure and the cat was asking $12,500. I sure thought hard about buying a plane ticket to Oregon for that one. The coupe GT, the Ur, and of course the coveted Sport Quattro ware all beautiful examples of the better points of styling that came from the Michael Jackson decade.
.....brings a tear to my eye, thanks for posting this beautiful car-- it migh even be insiration to finish the 3 things I've been ignoring on my GT.
