I've been running without one for 6 years now.  I've been pulled over once for it, told him that I’ve got the brackets on order from Germany as I pull the front plate from the back seat.  He handed me his card and sent me on my way.  Oh and I've been pulled over and ticketed numerous times for speeding and the front plate thing has never came up.  I'm also White. ;D

I don't have them either. Haven't for 12 years.  Don't draw attention to yourself and it shouldn't be a problem.  I've been pulled over but never got anything but a warning about it.

sweet. all truth as well. i ran for years without one, but recently had a single cop in my hood make note to check me out, he still thinks my 85 diesel imported from germany should have a 3rd brake light. too bad the mandate for federal safety standards is 87 :]

thanks guys

Don't draw attention to yourself and it shouldn't be a problem.

On the other side of that coin, once my dad was driving his S2000 perfectly reasonably, and a cop pulled him over because his registration stickers were on the front plate rather than the rear. It depends largely on who spots you.

Legally you have to have it, but just like every law, it is up to the cop.  Shoot some cops don't pull you over for 15 over.  I wouldn't try it...all the time, but you get my point.  I don't have my front plate on, and no cop has ever pulled me over for it and has never said anything about it.  Most cops, if handled correctly won't bother you for more than the original thing they pulled you over for.  Shoot I've even left my radar detector up and running while being pulled over...

Do you mean in addition to the CO state plate that you are required to run by law.  Or do you mean instead of the state plate?

I'm sure as long as you're running the CO plate up front they won't care what you have..but if all you have is a Europlate (which never was cool  ::) ) then you're asking for trouble.

I got pulled over once in my R32 for no front plate and the cop let me go with a verbal warning.  He even told me that he thinks it's a stupid law and he just wanted to make me aware because the next officer might not be as understanding.  I still never ended up running a front plate  ;D

having VA plates pretty much makes you exempt from having to conform with having a plate on the front of your car, because VA doesn't require it (as far as the 5-0 are concerned). Once you get CO tags, its "supposedly" mandatory, but like everyone has already mentioned, you can get away with it if you don't draw attention to yourself.

This is what a CO state trooper told me like a month or so back.  He said unless the the plate is mounted on the front plate mounting bracket provided with the car (or how it was intended to be mounted by the manufacturer) a cop can give you a ticket for not having a front plate.  So all you peeps that think you're getting away with putting the front plate on your dash, or wired to a lower grille...think again.  The cops probably don't care enough to pull you over for just that.  He also said that a plate on the dash draws attention to the fact that you think you are cool and will likely cause a cop to look for something more to pull you over.  So, as you can see, having just a europlate on the front will probably cause you to get pulled over more than having no plate at all.

Also,  CSPD does have a quota of tickets to meet.  It is 30 per month per cop.  So, that's about 1 per day, but if a cop were to miss a week for being sick, or have a 2 week vacation, that means they gotta give out more tickets.  Just some food for thought.

I've pretty much only run a euro plate on the front of my cars and only been pulled over for it once, the guy didn't give me a ticke for it either.  His exact words if I remeber correctly were, "I saw the front plate and got confused, I just pulled you over to find out what it was."  This was in Broomfield.  I did have one cop ask me about after getting pulled over for an "improper stop at stop sign" but I just pulled out my CO plate from the back seat and said something along the lines of, "Oops, I forgot to swap them back out. I was at a european car show, sorry about that."  He didn't add it to my ticket.

I just ordered two plates for the golf, both with CO ***-*** (for my plate number) stamped on them.  I'm half temted to run them both front and rear and see what happens.  Probably get a ticket for fictitious plates.

It really is a stupid law in that not every state requires them. Wonder what each state's criteria is for making it a law or not?
Anyway I see it this way, run the plate and make it one less reason for an officer to pull you over. If it's looks then that's your deal, personally I have yet to see a "cool" foreign plate no matter what it says or looks like. It's an ID tag for a vehicle, that's it. If someone judges or comments on any of my cars about how the state tag ruins the look of the car then they can go screw a light socket. Given the fact that it the only piece the state requires me to adhere to my cars I can deal with it.  Could be a hell of of a a lot worse just check out some of the metal pieces of crap other countries require http://www.worldlicenseplates.com

Kentucky's "Mr. Smiley Face" design, with a grinning cartoon sun in the middle and the motto "It's That Friendly," Is probably one of THE worst designs followed by Pennsylvania, Georgia, Illinois, and Texas. IMO

being out of state plate you should be fine.... you cant get a ticket in CO for something that is legal in the state you are driving in.... but then again this is CO and all they (Co police departments) care about are how much revenue they can generate from tickets. if there is no fine involved and no one was physically hurt they don't give a shit....fuck the colorado po-piece-o-shit-lice.

Sounds like someone got their taint tickled a few too many times...

But, that can be said about any state/province.  I have lived in a few states here, driven in most, lived in canada and driven in most provinces there.  I don't care where a person is driving, you will be able to find 5-oh that will give you a ticket for the lamest thing.  99% of traffic laws are up to the interpretation of the cop, therefore, the cop's decision to pull you over is all in how they feel that day.

I think we've beaten this dead horse enough...

In Colorado not having a front plate is a secondary offense. So you can't get pulled over just for your front plate  :o. I am sure however that the will just make something else up or not tell you the whole truth if you accept a ticket for it :banghead:. The only time any one I know got hit for it was by a meter maid in denver city limits in a metered spot :P. We still get on him for being delt with by a meter maid...

Tell that to Colo State Patrol. I got pulled over for no front plate and nothing else as stated by the officer himself, let off with a warning but they can still pull you over for no front plate.
