Insurance Agents? *Updated with results*
« on: January 22, 2008, 01:05:03 PM »

I just found out that my insurance aget (who was awesome) isn't doing insurance anymore.  So, I'm looking for someone new.  Anyone have a great (and cheap) agent that they work with?  I buy and sell cars a frequently so they should be on top of their game and able to change things quickly.  I've been working with my "new" (not by choice) agent for the past 4 days trying to add a car to my policy and it's been a complete nightmare.  :banghead:  Anyone?

My agency is cool as hell, I'm always changing up my policy between putting the Oodi on storage, picking up a jeep, selling them both, buying a Titan, that kind of thing.......if you want more info PM me since some of you sneaky bastards might go to them with my driving record  :driving:

The kind of people that don't want to talk to some random call center douche everytime they change their policy.

I'll take my 7 day a week 24 hour a day call center douche any day over some guy stuck in the 80's  :P
Takes me one phone call and approximately 5 minutes to add or change my policy any day of the week.  I have my ID cards via email while I'm still on the phone with my rep.

I have been using Esurance for about 4 years now and love them.  Claims processes are easy, customer service is awesome and the rates are almost untouchable.  A friend with a GTI was quoted about half of what they were being charged by Allstate.

Progressive kicks ass! I have never had a problem with them. And when my Audi got total by a drunk driver I didn't have Gap insurance and I was 2k under on it. So they paid it and also gave me 2500 for missing work for 2 weeks. They charged everything to the DD instead of me taking care of it even though the DD didn't have insurance. But USAA is a mixed deal because back in 1991 I had a DD offense ( back then it was called probation before judgement in Maryland) so I only got fined (4k) and didn't loose my license. But in 2002 I tried to get insurance thru them and they brought up the offense because I was covered by them at the time. It isn't on my record but they said it was something they kept on there personal files of there customers and it could effect my rate. So I said "SCREW U". But I have stopped and started insurance with Progressive on every car i have owned and at all times of the day with NO problems. And in 3 years I have owned 6 cars.

So I did some searching and this is what I found:

Esurance:
2002 WRX (yes, there has been an addition to my car family): $152/mo
1983 GTI:                                                                       $33/mo

Geico:
2002 WRX: $69/mo
1983 GTI:   $33/mo

Nation Wide:
$99.50/mo (no real break down for each car online)

American Family:
$174/mo (also no real car by car break down)

and the winner is.......

Progressive:
2002 WRX: $47.50/mo
1983 GTI:   $35/mo

I guess i am obligated to chime in here given my job.  First of all pat, the majorirty of policies in force (about 70%) are actually written through captive and independant agent's (captive being something like allstate where they only write for that company, independant write through multiple companies).  Regardless of the fact agent's can be very hit or miss. Some are excellent and get things done correctly and on time, others are abysmally bad.

Personally i can vouch for Progressive's customer svc dept, we are here 24 hours a day and we can do anything neccesary to your policy, such as add and remove vehicles, payments, the usual.  I'm sure other companies like GEICO or Esurance are probably pretty good, but there is a reason Progressive is rated #1 for customer service.  Moving along.  I would definitely go with a company that is 24 hour customer svc, not just claims, simply because most agents close at 5-6pm.

Keep in mind when people are telling you about their experiences with insurance companies that you should take everything said with a grain of salt.  EVERY insurance company in the existence of man is going to have a person who had a terrible claims experience or customer service experience that is going to tell you they are the worst company in the world.  That doesn't mean that what happened to them is the status quo.

Just out of curiosity(if you even know), why are the companies so all over the board on the WRX?  From $47-$152/mo?  Were those all the same coverage levels and such?  That a lot of change there.  The GTI is at least close(though I'd expect that with only liability I'm sure).

I'm not too insurance savvy, the last change I had to make was about 5yrs ago and I've always used my parent's agent.  I'm paying about $50/mo. for my GTI currently with full coverage, dropped over $100/mo once I turned 25  ;D

I wondered that exact same thing.  I double checked Esurance because I thought maybe I entered something wrong.  For some reason they are almost double for the level of deductibles I want.  I made sure all the quotes had the exact same coverage.  Yeah, liability only on the GTI.

also for a extra 5 beans a month I have road side assistence that will tow my ride for free within 15 miles. and I have used this for my Audi and can vouch for how good of a response time I got and curtousy calls to see if the tow company contacted me to come and get. i did even call them when a guy backed out of buying my Jetta and it was 1130pm and they started insurance right away on it. so in my book Progressive is a given!

I have AAA so I'm covered there but sounds like Progressive is good to deal with.  Thanks
