Got a new sportscar...
« on: November 20, 2007, 10:15:39 AM »

OK, it's not really a car, but it is pretty sporty (for a minivan) and it has pretty much the same engine as a 350Z. Jessica and I bought a 2005 Nissan Quest 3.5 SE in Autumn Red Clearcoat Metallic with a brick-colored leather interior. The thing is loaded to the gills, every feature available including Moonroof, Skyview roof, backing sonar, dual-zone and rear Air Conditioning, DVD entertainment system, and power side and rear doors. It's a pretty cool car.

Yeah, the interior seems weird at first, but it is actually pretty well laid out. My only gripe, ergonomically speaking, is that the CD changer is located on the front of that black barrel-thing that is the center console - you can see the opening in the pics. Plus, it has a plethora of compartments and gloveboxes - five on the dash alone.

Yeah, I'd rather have an interior that should be in a modern art museum than something stodgy. I'm also amazed that they've managed to design a minivan with actual curves, rather than a box with wheels.

Uh, I still have the TDI. This replaced Jessica's POS Taurus. If VW still made a minivan, I'd prolly have bought one of those instead.

well I guess one day you guys can race the Kia and the minivan. Probably could call out soccer moms at the dragstrip.

Jessica's POS Taurus.

back off fokker, the Taurus was always a reliable mode of transport and you cannot possibly deny that.

As for the VW minivan comment, why not shop for a used Eurovan instead of this thing that looks like a pregnant jelly bean?

1) Jessica's Taurus was a 2005 model, and it was a huge PITA (probably because it was such a big POS). It had 46k miles on it, expensive stuff broke (I have the bills to prove it), she wrecked it and it wasn't fixed right the first time (several weeks of headaches later and leaving me stranded more than once, it was fixed properly), it was too small for a family of five, cheaply made with subpar quality materials, and it was as boring as British porn.

B) I shopped for Eurovans. The T4 is a 17 year old platform, and it shows it. I looked at the newest VR6 models, and while they're cool, they're ancient enough to not be competitive, and new enough to be overcomplicate d. Plus, people seem to think that all but the least desirable models are plated in gold.

I looked and looked forever. In fact, I have been looking for a new car to replace hers for months (because it was too small, and a POS). I checked out literally EVERYTHING that would've worked. I compared them all directly to each other, from Land Rover Discos to Mazda5s, to Honda Odysseys. I really wanted a Toyota Previa (so it could be VIP'd out), but even the newest ones are beat to hell.

In the end, I'm happy with what we got. It isn't some boring box, has room for all of us, Jessica likes it, and it has personality in spades.

Man, my Taurus drove for 176,000 miles and the only issues I ever had wityh it was one bad fuel pump and a crappy overflow tank that cracked. I am not arguing with the build quality or brit porn aspects, but as a purely utilitarian machine, it was perfect.

Just goes to show that it can be a "luck of the draw" type scenario - even with the most utilitarian of cars.

Totally agree with you Josh.  I was just giving you shit earlier.  Granted that fucking thing is ugly (in my opinion)... but anyway just like you guys give me all kinds of shit about buying a Kia.  That fucker has more than exceeded my expectations and I paid hella lot less than anything comparable.
When we're talking about a day to day practical vehicle you all can take your VW/Audi brand loyalty shit and shove it up your asses.  I've owned enough VW's to say that so fuck off.
I challenge anyone to find an equally comparable SUV for what I paid for mine.  $23K  2007 Kia Sorento ..make sure you are accurate when you google the specs

No worries Pat. I give you shit about your Kia, just like I give London shit about his Subaru. Actually, there are other hardcore members of 719 who have Subarus and other stuff too, and let's not forget that Scott thought his Ford cliTaurus was a Mercury Mistress or something.

And now I've gone and bought a Nissan, oh well. I guess that means that I'm not a true dubhead either, though in my life I've owned: a Buick, a Mitsubishi, a Geo, a Chrysler, a Dodge, a Porsche, a Land Rover, a Nissan, a Cadillac (soon), and FOUR VWs.

Meh, I'm not really getting riled up. I don't think anybody here is seriously slinging shit for buying a non-VW minivan; and even if they were, since when do I give a fuck about what other people say about my cars?

even though vw's have their issues... we all still love em.  It doesn't mean we cant have other cars too... shit Ive had 2 toyota's since the last vw I've bought.

And its not that I wont use a vw as a daily, as I did use 2 of mine for that purpose... I just have other needs that I cant use a vw for...

Having something other than a vw does open your eyes some though...
All that said, I'll still always have a dub in my driveway... (it probably wont be the only car in the driveway though :))

Odyssey's pretty fast considering I can bully and smoke most of the little honda civics on the road. Very reliable and fuel efficient. 3.5L vtec engine... 240hp/242ft-lbs torque

I still have the 2001 suzuki xl7 since 01 and only had an a/c compressor pulley problem... other than  it's been worry free and ditch free in Colorado.
Had a 94 toyota pickup which was slow, heavy but reliable... sold her for the same amount I bought her.

my 01 wolfsburg... replaced the engine/tranny/4 turbos/coilpacks/mafs/rear caliper sticking/...  Oh and now I have a  piece of shit corrado which I love.
